Corridor Traffic Management uses cost-effective Intelligent Transportation System (ITS) solutions such as cameras, remote signal access, variable message boards and signal synchronization to improve traffic flow and increase efficiencies within the existing transportation infrastructure. This program focuses on major arterial routes throughout King County that cross city boundaries and carry high volumes of traffic.

Benefits:

  • Increases transit efficiency and capacity of existing corridors while reducing congestion and travel time.
  • Technology allows signal controllers to adjust signal timings to accommodate fluctuations in traffic flow.
  • Improves communication between the Traffic Management Centers (TMC) and major freight distribution centers with the sharing of video and data.
  • Real-time traffic surveillance enables faster clearance of traffic incidents and a reduction in secondary incidents.
  • Public safety is enhanced by the reduction in accidents due to reduced congestion.
  • Accurate and timely traffic information for the general public.

See attachments 1 and 2 for lists of corridor candidates.
